Martin Weiss Elementary School Teacher Assistant Receives $1,500 from Central Market H-E-B

DALLAS–Angela Linco has been named as the 2011–2012 Teacher Assistant of the Year for the Dallas Independent School District.

Linco, now serving in her 11th year at Martin Weiss Elementary, was honored during a recognition program sponsored by Central Market H-E-B.

Besides her duties and responsibilities as teacher assistant, Linco is also a soccer coach at the school, encourages students to engage more in reading through the Reading Club, provides after-school tutoring, and contributed to the implementation of a gang/drug awareness program at Weiss Elementary.

Linco describes her relationship with students by "caring daily for each one as if they were her own." She also believes that working as a team fosters success in students. "The more the students see us working together in a united, harmonious teaching environment, the more the students are going to succeed," said Linco. "My responsibility and commitment to our school and district is to educate students by providing academically rigorous instruction through student-centered activities and parental involvement. Dallas ISD provides so many opportunities, tools, and trainings for each of us and our job is to pass the skills and knowledge that we acquire to our students so they can succeed. One team plus one goal equals student achievement!"

Linco is also an active community member. She participates in the school's Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) committee, in the Grapevine Folklore, Voces y Danzas de Chile, a local dancing group, and she is an Assistant Soccer Coach for the Duncanville Soccer Association.

Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa presented Linco with an engraved award and Stephen Butt, senior vice president, Central Market Division, H-E-B, presented her with a cash award of $1,500.
