Middle School Students Learning to Think Globally
DALLAS—Middle school students from 24 Dallas ISD schools convened for the district's first Model United Nations Conference, a mock session that gave students an opportunity to be diplomats for a chosen country.
During the conference, which replicated an actual United Nations assembly, the students presented four position papers and exhibits on specific global issues and discussed the issues with their fellow diplomats.
All year, students have been preparing to participate in the Model U.N. by studying, researching and learning about global issues impacting their chosen nation, the inner workings of the United Nations, our government and the governments of countries around the world.
The conference was sponsored by Dallas ISD's Social Studies Department in an effort to help students learn about current issues around the globe and learn how to work together to resolve issues.
