TAG Rated Second; Other Dallas ISD Schools Make List
DALLAS—The School of Science and Engineering at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center is the top school in the nation according to The Washington Post. The School for the Talented and Gifted is rated second.
"Congratulations to the staff and students at the School of Science and Engineering and TAG for continuing to take the lead in academic excellence," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "It is great to see them recognized nationally for their efforts, and it is an affirmation that Dallas ISD has some of the most talented and dedicated teachers and principals in the country who are devoted to helping students reach their full potential."
Since 1998, The Post's High School Challenge has ranked public high schools throughout Washington, D.C. This year, they expanded their rankings to schools across the country.
"It is an absolute honor to receive this recognition. Providing a quality education to the students at the School of Science and Engineering is our number one goal," said Principal Jovan Grant-Wells, School of Science and Engineering. "It truly takes a focused team effort in order to ensure that our students are prepared to compete globally in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. Of course, without the hard-working students, dedicated faculty/staff, committed parents, supportive community members, and Dallas ISD administrative leadership, this accomplishment would not be possible."
"When things seem the most challenging, it is gratifying to produce some positivity for our district," said Principal Michael Satarino, School for the Talented and Gifted. "Despite all of the financial and layoff distractions, the students and the teachers remained focused and produced some tremendous results. The entire TAG community is proud to have produced such a fine honor for Dallas ISD."
Rankings are determined by looking at the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year divided by the number of graduating seniors.
