More Than 150 Dallas ISD Schools to Receive HealthierUS School Challenge Awards From the USDA

20 May 2011

Dallas ISD will receive the largest number of awards ever presented to a single school district

DALLAS–One hundred and fifty four Dallas Independent School District schools will receive the HealthierUS School Challenge gold and bronze level awards from the United States Department of Agriculture during a ceremony Wednesday, May 25, at 8 a.m., at the Alfred J. Loos Athletic Complex, 3815 Spring Valley Rd., in Addison.

This is the largest number of awards ever presented to a single school district. The HealthierUS School Challenge is a key component of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative to end childhood obesity. Schools participating in the challenge voluntarily adopt USDA standards for food they serve at their schools, agree to provide nutrition education and provide opportunities for physical activity.

USDA Deputy Undersecretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, Janey Thornton, will join Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and Dallas ISD staff and students at the ceremony.
