Dallas ISD Seniors Receive Business Organization Scholarships

Scholarships funded by non-profit support area students


DALLAS--Three Dallas ISD graduating seniors have each been awarded $2,500 scholarships to the college of their choice by the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association (GAABA).

Sarmad Husam Al-Qaysi, graduating from Emmett J. Conrad High School, plans to study medicine/ biology at UT- Arlington. Liliana Guadalupe Eguia, a North Dallas High School graduate, will study psychology at UT-Austin. Woodrow Wilson High School graduate Natalie Benitez will attend UT-Arlington to study biochemistry.

"Our association is proud to award these scholarships for the third year, providing financial assistance to three deserving high school students in our area," said Jorge Levy, GAABA president and owner of Desperados Mexican Restaurant. "We have a commitment to higher education and take pride in giving back to the community. We feel it is important to support the Dallas ISD in its efforts to prepare the next generation for success."

The Greenville Avenue Area Business Association, a non-profit organization of more than 60 merchants, promotes business development in the area and creates general awareness programs for the community. This is the third year GAABA has provided the scholarships. Proceeds to fund the awards come from the organizations annual St. Patricks Day Parade and for the second year, profits from the Savor Mexico event, a competition that tests the skills of student chefs from select regions in Mexico.
