Current principal at A. Maceo Smith to take reigns as renovated school gets ready to reopen

DALLAS--As A. Maceo Smith High School transitions from a comprehensive campus to a New Tech High School, the schools current principal, Marlon Brooks, will lead a renovated Wilmer-Hutchins High School when it reopens this fall.

"I am humbled to have the opportunity to be part of the rebirth of one of the most renowned high schools in the state of Texas," Brooks said. "The dedication and commitment to academic and social excellence that has long been in place in the Wilmer-Hutchins communities is alive and well. Eagle pride is back!"

Brooks has worked in Dallas ISD since 1992, beginning as an Alternative Certification intern and then teaching fourth grade at Julius Dorsey Elementary. He has served as assistant principal at M.M. Bethune Elementary and W.H. Adamson High School, and principal at W.B. Miller Elementary, Phillis Wheatley Elementary, T.L. Marsalis Elementary and E.B. Comstock Middle School before leading A. Maceo Smith.

He earned a bachelors degree in Mass Communication from Southern University in Baton Rouge and a masters in Education Administration from UT-Austin, where he also completed studies in the Cooperative Superintendency Program.
Regina Jones, Senior Executive Director of the East Secondary Learning Community, said

Brooks is an ideal choice to be principal at the renewed school.

"Marlon will bring his enthusiasm and experience as a dedicated campus leader to Wilmer-Hutchins High School," Jones said. "I know the school, under his leadership, will once again be a source of great pride in the community."

More than $20 million in renovations are being made for Wilmer-Hutchins High School, funded through the 2008 Dallas ISD Bond Program. Work is being performed inside and outside the campus as needed, including replacing ceilings, flooring, windows, doors, the roof and HVAC system and plumbing as needed, among many other upgrades. The school is located at 5520 Langdon Road.

High school students living in the A. Maceo Smith attendance zone will attend Wilmer-Hutchins High School.
