42 Years of Service to Children
Ms. Durant has 42 years of experience in public education, including 16 in Dallas ISD, as a dean of instruction, principal, area superintendent and as the executive director of the Northwest Learning Community where she supervised 40 elementary school principals. As Chief Academic Officer, she oversaw the district's Teaching and Learning department.
"This school district has given me opportunities to serve children in so many different ways," said Durant. "It has been a privilege to work with some phenomenal people, especially teachers and principals throughout the city."
According to King, a permanent replacement will not be named at this time to allow an incoming superintendent to be able to hire someone to fill this position. Jacqueline Landry, the district's Executive Director for Professional Development, has been asked to fulfill Durant's duties upon her retirement.
"Ivonne Durant is as dedicated to the needs of children as anyone I have ever met," said King. "During my brief tenure here, I have grown to respect her a great deal and I wish her all the best in the future."
