The Dallas Independent School District Food & Child Nutrition Services Department, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Human Services, is sponsoring the 1997 Summer Food Service Program. The program will begin June 2 and end July 25, 1997. (Lunch and snacks will not be served on July 4.) The purpose of the Summer Food Services Program is to ensure the youth of Dallas will not go without proper nutrition during the summer months.

A kickoff for the meals program is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Nolan Estes Plaza, 3434 South R.L. Thornton Frwy. Special guests speakers are planned for the event.

Children and youth (age one to 18) can receive a free lunch and snack each day at any of the more than 110 sites. The participating sites will be located at churches, parks, recreation centers, and schools throughout Dallas; including locations spanning from North Dallas to Oak Cliff, as well as neighborhoods in West, East and South Dallas.

Approximately 25,000 lunches and snacks will be prepared for distribution Monday through Friday.
