• Classes:

Classes in the Dallas Independent School District will start on Wednesday, August 12. Student enrollment is expected to increase to approximately 161,000 students.

• Calendar Highlights:

Each year a group of employees and community representatives gather input to develop a district calendar. This year, President's Day (February 15) has been added to the list of special observances which have been designated as student/teacher holidays. Also, parent/teacher conferences will be held on three different days, two times a year, whereas last year conferences were scheduled on one day two times a year. (Calendar highlights attached)

• School Hours:

School hous have changed for the upcoming school year. The district will operate on the following schedule, but will remain open longer for afternoon programs as needed. The 1998-99 school hours are:

Elementary—8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Middle—8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

High—8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m.

Skyline/Townview—9 a.m.-4 p.m.
