Enrollment in the Dallas Independent School District Summer School 2000 Program starts Saturday, June 3. Students must get enrollment forms from their home school counselors and register at the summer school site between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Summer school will be offered at more than 90 sites throughout the city. Classes start Tuesday, June 6. Elementary school students will meet from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; middle school hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Secondary school day classes are from 7:30 a.m. to 1:05 p.m.; evening classes are from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Textbooks will be furnished free of charge to DISD students.
Students can enroll in a variety of science, math, arts, music, literacy and language classes. A new offering this year is Voyager Pre-Med for students grades K-6. The Pre-Med program provides a math/science/literacy experience for participants. Students participate in hospital-based simulations. Individual responsibility and teamwork are emphasized along with language arts, science and math.
Also new this year is a Math/Science/Literacy Camp in English and Spanish for students grades K-6. The camp offers a standard-based, hands-on, engaging program. Learning comprehension skills are based on math and science content. Fine arts activities round out the program.
