The Dallas Independent School District & Child Nutrition Services Department, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Human Services, is sponsoring the 2000 Summer Food Service Program. The purpose of this program is to ensure the youth of Dallas will not go without proper nutrition during the summer months.
The lunch distribution program at city parks will begin June 5 and end July 21.
The Summer Food Service program at the schools will begin on June 6 and continue through July 20. Breakfast will be served four-days-a-week, Monday through Thursday. Children may receive a free breakfast and lunch at the school where they are enrolled. (Lunch and snacks will not be served on July 4.)
Children and youth (age one to 18) can receive a free lunch and snack each day at any of the 100+ sites throughout the city. Participating sites (see list attached) will be located at churches, parks, recreation centers, and schools throughout Dallas; including locations spanning from North Dallas to Oak Cliff, as well as neighborhoods in West, East and South Dallas.
Approximately 25,000 lunches and afternoon snacks will be prepared for distribution Monday through Friday at four DISD preparation sites including Lincoln High School, Martinez Elementary, Greiner Middle School and A. Maceo Smith High School.
The Summer Food Program also has provided summer employment for more than 425 food service employees throughout the district who previously were unemployed during the summer months.
