Preliminary figures show that the amount of scholarship money awarded to the 1999-2000 graduatin

Preliminary figures show that the amount of scholarship money awarded to the 1999-2000 graduating class of Dallas Independent School District is $32,603,925. 54. This is $4 million higher than last year's awards. The school where students have received the highest monetary award is the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where 159 graduating seniors have been awarded $5,216,648 in scholarship money.

Following closely are the seniors at the School for the Talented and Gifted at the Yvonne Ewell Townview Center with $5,037,722 in scholarship offers. Also among the most sought-after graduates are the students at Carter High School with $2,652,100 in offers.

Other district schools where students were offered scholarships in excess of a million dollars are Kimball High School ($1,500,000); Woodrow Wilson High School ($1,470,290); Spruce High School ($1,330,000); Seagoville High School ($1,263,828); Lincoln High School ($1,179,360); School of Science and Engineering at Townview ($1,242,621); Skyline High School ($1,092,390); South Oak Cliff High School ($1,077,018); Hillcrest High School ($1,012,975); and the School of Business and Management at Townview ($1,033,125).

In this year's graduating class of 5,602, most valedictorians and salutatorians have chosen to attend Texas institutions of higher learning with University of Texas branches and Southern Methodist University among the top choices. Others have selected out-of-state universities such as Yale, Dartmouth, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cornell, Morehouse, Brown and Dillard.
