One of the key elements to a good education is the quality and expertise of the teacher in the classroom. As the shortage in the teaching profession continues to grow, and qualified teachers are increasingly difficult to recruit, the Dallas Independent School District is introducing a program to improve recruitment efforts and increase teacher retention within the school district.
The Dallas ISD, working with local chambers of commerce, is reaching out to both small and large businesses to establish a discount program that would be a win - win relationship for both the business community and the employees of the DISD.
Participation could potentially increase a business' customer base by more than 18,000. Involvement reflects commitment to public education, the individuals who dedicate themselves to children across the city, and, ultimately, the social and economic future of Dallas.
Most businesses are offering discounts from 10 - 25% to school district employees, who will show proof of employment. To date, 22 firms have committed to this endeavor, with more signing up each day. Participating businesses include Powell Chevrolet, Half Price Books, Mapsco, Bally's Total Fitness, Bledsoe Dodge, SALCO Concrete Resurfacing and American Sleep Diagnostic Center.
