Through the Dallas Independent School District Graduate Placement Center, 29 students have been hired for a four-week job assignment in Plano by a local staffing agency.
Westaff is not only providing job opportunities for these recent DISD graduates, the company volunteered free transportation from the Placement Center in South Dallas to the job site. When Westaff found out that many of therecent graduates did not have transportation, Barbara Biebuyck, DISD job placement specialist, said the company was so impressed with the students interviewing skills that it offered free transportation.
"Westaff is going the extra mile to help these young people get to work," Biebuyck said. "After interviewing these young people who have been counselled at the center, Westaff said our clients were prepared for the workforce."
Starting Thursday, June 22, at 6:30 a.m., Westaff will pick up the students at the Graduate Placement Center and take them to work. The center is located at 5000 South Malcolm X Blvd., Room 211.
The students will be employed full time as stockers at the Super Wal-Mart located in Plano. They will earn $7.50 per hour.
The Graduate Placement Center helps recent graduates up to a year find full and part-time jobs. A free service, the Center trains the students in interviewing techniques, resume writing, dressing for success and how to properly complete an employment application. Working with more than 500 companies, the placement service finds jobs for seven out of eight students, Biebuyck said.
