DISD Trustee Ron Price Participates In HIV Prevention Forum

24 Jul 2000

Dallas Independent School District Trustee Ron Price was among the participants in a forum on HIV prevention in minority communities. The event was held in Alexandria, Va., July 20-21 and included representatives from among the 20 state and local African American and Hispanic education board members.

"The forum is a part of the U.S. Surgeon General's National Leadership Campaign on AIDS," said Price. "In addition, the NSBA is partnering with the National Association of State Boards of Education in this endeavor which will focus on prevention efforts as they relate to young people."

It is estimated that about half of all new cases of HIV infection occur among young people between the ages of 13 and 24. A significant number of these cases affect African American and Latino youth.

Price is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Caucus of School Board Members. He also is vice president of the National Caucus of Young School Board Members.

As a trustee, Price represents District 9 which encompasses South Dallas, part of Oak Cliff, Deep Ellum, Pleasant Grove, the Uptown neighborhood and a portion of Oak Lawn.
