The academic success of the Dallas Independent School District students depends in great part on the support of volunteers and the Partners in Education Program. There are never too many volunteers, and even more are needed to meet the requirements of the 2000-2001 school year, and the district's growing student enrollment.

The Partners in Education Program is designed to involve the public in the education of the young people of Dallas. Through hours spent tutoring, mentoring and many other activities, thousand of students have been helped over the years. In 1999-2000, the number of volunteers in the Dallas schools exceeded 27,000.

“With increased enrollment, the support of these volunteers is even more critical,” said Michael Ralston, Director of Community Relations. “Their contribution cannot be understated. Their role is invaluable to a successful educational experience for all students.”

As part of its ongoing effort to provide a safe learning environment for the students, the school district provides training and criminal background screening to prepare new volunteers to participate in the program. For more information, call 972-925-3922.
