25 Aug 2000

This year's Dallas Independent School District Communications Seminar 2000, Building School-Community Involvement, is at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 9, at the Yvonne Ewell Townview Center, 1201 E. 8th St. The event is open to the public. Approximately 250 participants are expected to attend the training.

For many years, district employees, local business and media personalities have contributed their time and expertise on a Saturday morning to train school staff and community leaders interested in learning how to promote the accomplishments of teachers and students, and how to create a positive learning atmosphere in schools.

Deputy Superintendent Mary Rodriguez Roberts will open the seminar and provide focus. Keynote speaker is Norma Adams-Wade, reporter and columnist for The Dallas Morning News, and a Lincoln High School graduate. Adams-Wade also is a founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Workshop topics include How to Create Successful Newspapers and Newsletters, Special Event Protocol and Procedures, Safe Schools and Communities, Understanding Linguistic Diversity, Helping Your Child to Succeed, and Getting Media Coverage for Your School.

District staff and community leaders interested in attending this free seminar, should call (972) 925-3920 to request a registration form.
