WHY: FCE made a commitment in 1999 to eliminate the racial/ economic " digital divide" by providing computers for South Dallas students enrolled in DISD Area 2 Schools. This is the first phase of a deployment that will ultimately provide free computers for 12,000 DISD Area 2 households, ensuring that every student there has access to technology at home. FCE hopes this unprecedented strategy will result in highly skilled high school graduates who will be better prepared to compete both in college and the workplace. This phase of FCE's computer deployment has been made possible by a generous grant from the Hoblitzelle Foundation.
