As the nation's eleventh largest school district, Dallas Independent School District serves more than 160,000 students who come from homes where 58 different languages are spoken. Operating with a $1 billion dollar budget, DISD employs 18,613 employees including 10,000 teachers in 220 schools.

Approximately 1,700 elementary schoolchildren from 21 Dallas Independent School District will receive large colorful stockings filled with gifts and toys through the Stockings Project sponsored by the Quilter's Guild of Dallas. Since 1989, the Quilter's Guild has included DISD schoolchildren in its community service project.
At various holiday parties scheduled from Dec. 15 to Dec. 19 throughout the district, the donated cloth stockings will be distributed to the students. The Quilter's Guild has stuffed the stockings with various children books, jump ropes, small toys and other gifts of interest to elementary students. The designated school selected to receive the stockings were based on need.
The 21 schools receiving are: Arcadia Park, Arlington Park, Bayles, James B. Bonham, Jimmie Tyler Brashear, Robert Cooke Buckner, John W. Carpenter, C. F. Carr, S. S. Conner, James W. Fannin, Richard Lagow, Umphrey Lee, T. D. Marshall, Joseph J. McMillan, Ronald E. McNair, Elisha M. Pease, Oran M. Roberts, Dan D. Rogers, Erasmo Seguin, Thomas Tolbert and Martin Weiss.
Note to Editors: Listed below by date are several schools that will be hosting holiday parties to distributed the stockings that were donated by the Quilter's Guild. With prior arrangements, the media may visit these locations for video and photo opportunity.
