The Dallas Independent School District Department of Athletics has scheduled a "Meet the Signees" media event at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Sprague Field House, 3606 S. Westmoreland Road. (Mapsco key 63B)
The ceremony is to recognize and introduce all DISD senior student-athletes who have signed college scholarships for the upcoming 2001-2002 school year, including football, soccer, volleyball and basketball early period signees. It is anticipated that many of the school district's 21 high schools which field athletic programs will have student-athletes represented at the event.
"The National Letter of Intent Signing Day is a significant day for so many of our student athletes and their families," said Troy Mathieu, assistant superintendent–Athletics. "These student athletes have worked so hard both academically and athletically in preparing for this day, that we wanted to make sure they were properly recognized for their accomplishments."
The signing-day event, which initiated in 1999 as a means of assisting the local media in its coverage of this big day, is also open to members of the general public.
