Parent-Teacher Conferences Start February 26 In DISD Schools

21 Feb 2001

The Dallas Independent School District will conduct second semester parent-teacher conferences starting Monday, February 26. Teachers and administrators will welcome the opportunity to discuss the current curriculum, school activities and the strengths and weaknesses of individual students.

It is recommended that parents bring a list of questions to ask the teachers during these meetings. Before the conference parents should prepare a few notes about:

Things about their child's life at home, personality, problems, habits and hobbies they feel are important for the teacher to know. Concerns about the school's programs and facilities. Suggestions about how parents and school can work together to help the child.

Good questions to ask during the conference include: Is my child in different groups for different subjects? Why?; How well does my child get along with others?; What are my child's best and worst subjects?; Is my child working up to his or her ability?; Does my child participate in class discussions and activities?; Has my child missed any classes?; How does my child handle taking tests?; and What does the tests tell about my child's progress?

All children learn in different ways and the more a teacher knows about a student the better he/she can help him/her achieve in school.

The Parent -Teacher conference schedule for the Dallas Independent School District is:

High Schools, February 26, 4 - 8 p.m.

Elementary Schools, February 27, 4 - 8 p.m.

Middle Schools, March 1, 4 - 8 p.m.

Parents who need to arrange for meetings outside the dates and times listed should call the school to make other arrangements.
