Visit is Part of Annual Observance To Promote Non-Violence
It is not part of the curriculum, but the students at W. T. White High School will receive a lesson in peace Monday, March 5. The visit to the school by Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and his wife, Sunanda Gandhi, is part of the many events planned to commemorate the 64-days between the assassination dates of non-violence advocates Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
Many area schools have planned events to commemorate what is called the Season for Nonviolence. The observance was launched nationally in 1998 to create an awareness of nonviolent principles and to teach ways to channel anger into positive, constructive action.
There will be a presentation at 1:30 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. The school is located at 4505 Ridgeside.
