With the theme of Bright Eyes, Bright Minds, Bright Future, March 5-9 is Texas Public Schools Week. The focus on education brings attention to its value to the community. There is no substitute to a good education, said Dr. Mike Moses, the General Superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District. It is a solid foundation for students to find their niché in life.
"As the theme suggests, every child in this culturally diverse district enters school with bright eyes, eager to learn about and see the world around him," Dr. Moses said. "Educators, parents and citizens alike share the responsibility of providing a good education for Dallas' children."
Elementary, middle and high schools across the district have planned activities that focus on the school as a community of parents, students and teachers.
At Pleasant Grove Elementary, the principal has invited fathers to a Coffee with My Dads program. The early morning meeting is an opportunity for fathers to bring their children to school and get a briefing about the academic goals and activities of the school, Principal Mary Bolden said. She added that one of the goals of the school is to have strong parental involvement. Coffee with My Dads starts at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, in the media center of Pleasant Grove Elementary, 1614 North St. Augustine. (Mapsco key 59F)

The special guests will emphasize the importance of a good education to have a successful career. Among the speakers include the public affairs director for KTVT-Channel 11 and UPN-Channel 21, Tené Moore. The school is located at 5555 Maple Avenue. (Mapsco® key 34T)
