Students, teachers and parents will get the opportunity to learn about traditional and leading edge technologies used to educate today's schoolchildren at the first Technology Summit scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday,
Sponsored by the Dallas Independent School District, one of the summit' goals is to display technologies the district uses to teach students, Ruben Bohuchot, DISD chief technology officer, said. "The summit will show how our students are benefiting from technology."
Another primary goal of the summit is to present a glimpse of how technology will enhance the future of education through such innovations as wireless communication and mobile computer labs.
Free to the public, the summit will include demonstrations, exhibits, booths and informal discussions. There will be something for everyone at the summit, said Don Smith, DISD Instructional Technology Director. "Students will see the potential of the computer, and how it will make them lifelong learners. Teachers will learn how technology can take their subject areas to a greater depth. And parents will learn the technology being used in the classroom is not just word processing and spread sheets," he added.
Members of the district's technology department and vendors will be available to answer questions dealing with the impact technology is having on education. "Technology makes learning much more livelier than just the printed page," Dr. Smith said.
