Earth Day Offers Opportunity To Showcase DISD's Best Kept Secrets

5 Apr 2001

Earth Day offers an opportunity to showcase one of DISD's best kept secrets—the Environmental Education Center. Although the center is open to district students throughout the year, on Saturday, April 21, it will open its doors to the Dallas community for families to enjoy the nature trails, the petting farms and museum tours. The celebration is the district's contribution to events planned nationwide in observance of Earth Day (April 22). The center is located at 1600 Bowers Road in Seagoville, Mapsco Code 80G. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

"The Earth Day celebration offers the community an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and to connect with nature," said Paul Sugg, the center's director. "This event is designed to get the message out that we all need to work together to protect the earth and its valuable resources."

Guided nature walks through the Dallas County Post Oak Preserve, educational programs and hands-on demonstrations will be offered throughout the day. Special guest at the event is Howard Garrett, The Dirt Doctor and host of the Natural Way, a radio show on WBAP.

Special performances by elementary students are scheduled. Participants are invited to bring picnic baskets.
