As the nation's eleventh largest school district, Dallas Independent School District serves more than 160,000 students who come from homes where 58 different languages are spoken. Operating with a $1 billion dollar budget, DISD employs 18,613 employees including 10,000 teachers in 220 schools.

Receiving more than $10,000 in scholarships, 21 Asian American students will be honored by the Asian American Advisory Committee at a reception and awards ceremony from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 20, in the Dallas City Hall Flag Room,1500 Marilla Street. MapscoŽ key 45Q
The students, from six DISD high schools, were selected based on their academic achievement, community involvement, college entrance exam scores and extracurricular activities. The scholarships range from $350 to $1000. The scholarships are funded by State Farm Insurance Company and corporate and private donors. State Farm Insurance contributed $7,000 to the scholarship fund.
At the awards ceremony, the Asian American Advisory Committee also will announce the Volunteer of the Year and Business Partner of the Year honorees.
A member of the DISD network of organizations, the Asian American Advisory Committee acts as a liaison between the Asian American community and the General Superintendent in the district's effort to provide the best education to all its students.
