Two upcoming events are planned to honor local teachers. The Teacher of the Year Social and the Hats Off to Dallas Teachers. National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-12.
• The "Hats Off! To Dallas Teachers" celebration will be Wednesday, May 2, at 5:30 p.m. at The Women's Museum at Fair Park. More than 10,000 Dallas teachers and staff from district schools will be recognized by members of the Dallas Council of PTAs. Food, music and prizes await participants. The event is sponsored by ING Aetna Financial Services, Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Greater Asian American Chamber of Commerce.
• The annual Teacher of the Year Ice Cream Social provides fun and drama for the Teachers of the Year from local campuses. Each school nominated its representative for the coveted title of District Teacher of the Year. The semifinalists and finalists will be announced at the event. The winner of the coveted Teacher of the Year-Golden Apple Award will be announced in the fall. The social will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Union Station, 400 S. Houston St. The event's sponsor is the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Dallas/Fort Worth.
