The teachers and students of Stonewall Jackson Elementary along with the General Superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District will greet U. S. Senators Phil Gramm and Kay Bailey Hutchison at the nationally recognized school at 9:15 a.m., Monday, April 30. The joint visit of the senators is the first of several stops throughout Texas to champion President Bush's Education Plan. During the visit, the senators will outline the plan for teachers and students.

Stonewall Jackson was selected by Senators Gramm and Hutchison because it is a public school with high student achievement. A Texas Education Agency's exemplary school, Stonewall Jackson Elementary's students scored above the 94 percentile on the reading, math and writing portions of the TAAS test in 2000. Stonewall Jackson was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 1999. The school is one of three campuses for the Dallas Regional Day School for the Deaf. All of the students at Stonewall Jackson Elementary learn about the deaf culture and are given the opportunity to learn American Sign Language.
