Information Fair and Carnival Include Other Day-long Activities
Approximately 47 DISD parents will graduate Saturday, May 19, from a very unique university—the Parent University at John F. Kennedy Learning Center. The ceremony has been planned to recognize and celebrate parents who attended parenting classes throughout the year. Classes included family communication, positive discipline in the home and tips to help their children with homework. The "graduation" ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in the school auditorium, 1802 Moser. "Although there have been on-going parent/training classes at JFK Learning Center for many years, this is the first year that the Parent University concept has been implemented," said Jesus Guzman, community liaison at the school. "Community response shows that parents have a need and an interest in developing their skills as parents, and the Parent University provides a process for them to access training that will help them reach that goal."
Also on May 19, at Kennedy Learning Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is an Information Fair. Health screenings, as well as information on summer programs and resources, will be available to families in the East Dallas community. Entertainment will be provided by students from neighborhood schools including Spence, Fannin, Bonham and Chavez.
