DISD Volunteers And Partners In Education To Be Recognized May 10

The hard work and dedication of more than 27,000 volunteers who have contributed in excess of 705,635 hours of service in district schools will be recognized at the 32nd Annual Dallas Independent School District Partner/Volunteer Recognition program. The event begins at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 10, at the Great Hall, in the International Apparel Mart, 2300 Stemmons Frwy.

This year six volunteers will be recognized for 30 years of service to the Dallas schools. They are Fred Bradish, Dorothy Clark, Jacqulyn Peel, Lillian Maddox, Harold McIntosh and Mae Wagner. Six volunteers will receive awards for 25 years of service, and 16 volunteers for 20 years of service.

Several other commendations will be presented during the program, including the SPARK Award to Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk and the Superintendent's Award to IBM. The Emmett Conrad Extra Mile Award will be presented to Earning by Learning of Dallas and the Outstanding School Partner Award goes to Bishop Police Store Front. The police officers volunteer at Rosemont Elementary School.

In addition to the volunteers, more than 2,242 partners, including businesses, civic groups and other agencies, will be recognized for their support to the education of children in DISD schools. The winner of the Outstanding Business Partner Award (large business) is Baker Botts L.L.P. for its support to Julius Dorsey Elementary School. Teligent, Inc. will be recognized for its support to Harry Withers Elementary School in the Outstanding Business Partner in the small business category.
