DISD Announces Teacher Hiring Incentives For 2001-02

8 May 2001

To be competitive with area districts and to attract more teachers, the Dallas Independent School District is offering several hiring incentives. With the hiring incentives and stipends, a dual certified (critical subject fields) bilingual beginning teacher can make up to $39,500 for the first year of employment in DISD.

The signing bonuses, stipends and the competitive salary package are intricate components of the district overall recruitment efforts, said Hector Flores, DISD director–Recruitment. "In the Dallas/Metroplex area, teachers have a variety of school districts to consider for employment," he said. "All districts have students who need good teachers to educate them. Dallas hopes to increase its chances of attracting certified teachers with a competitive salary package and hiring incentives."

To be eligible for the hiring incentives, an applicant must complete the hiring process. The $1,500 signing bonus is for all new teachers in any subject area as well as new special education diagnosticians and psychologists. To qualify for this incentive, new hires have to sign a report to work form by July 31. A signing bonus of $1,000 will be given to new hires who sign the report to work form between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31. New teachers who are certified in critical shortage areas are eligible for a second signing bonus ranging from $500 to $1,500. To receive this additional incentive, the new employee must complete the hiring process by Aug. 31. Also, these teachers receive an annual stipend ranging from $500 to $3,000, depending on the teaching area.

The district plans to hire 1,400 new teachers to join its teaching force. Applicants can learn more about DISD hiring incentives by attending one of the following teacher job fairs:
