Outstanding Principal For 2000-01 To Be Selected For The DISD

What: Three principals from the Dallas Independent School District in Areas 7, 8 and 9 will be honored at a luncheon in the final round of the MetLife Principal of the Year Competition. Scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, the luncheon ends a year-long recognition program designed to reward outstanding principals in DISD. At the luncheon, one of the area winners will be selected as the MetLife Principal of the Year.

DISD General Superintendent Mike Moses along with MetLife representatives will be on hand to congratulate the area winners and the principal of the year honoree. The nomination criteria for the area winners includes leadership management, community relations and communications skills.

Why: To select the outstanding principal of the year for DISD.

Note: In the fall and spring, six principals from Areas 1-6 were recognized in the MetLife Principal of the Year Competition. Those principals are Zulema Murillo, Julius Dorsey Elementary in Area 1; Halice Furtado, Daniel "Chappie" James Learning Center in Area 2; and Nancy McLaughlin, Woodrow Wilson High School in Area 3; Robert Craft, W. H. Atwell Fundamental Academy in Area 4; Lincoln Butler, Albert S. Johnston Elementary in Area 5; and Sylvia Lopez, Raśl Quintanilla Sr. Middle School in Area 6. All of the area principals selected are eligible to compete in the final round of the MetLife Principal of the Year Competition. Among the prizes, the Principal of the Year for DISD will receive two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the United States.
