As the nation's eleventh largest school district, Dallas Independent School District serves more than 160,000 students who come from homes where 58 different languages are spoken. Operating with a $1 billion dollar budget, DISD employs 18,613 employees including 10,000 teachers in 220 schools.

Each year members of the Rotary Club of Dallas evaluate DISD teachers' performance and contributions. They select those whom they consider have demonstrated excellence in the profession by "going the extra mile." Winners of the Outstanding Teacher Awards for Service Above Self in the elementary, middle and high school categories received a cash award of $2,000 each. The two runners-up in each category received $250 cash awards. The winners (in bold) and the finalists are listed.
