The Dallas Independent School District Food & Child Nutrition Services Department, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Human Services, is sponsoring the 2001 Summer Food Service Program. The purpose of the Summer Food Service Program is to ensure the youth of Dallas will not go without proper nutrition during the summer months. The program begins June 4 and ends July 20.
Children from age one to 18 can receive a free lunch and snack each day. Spanning from North Dallas to Oak Cliff, as well as neighborhoods in West, East and South Dallas, the more than 100 participating sites are located at churches, parks, recreation centers and schools throughout Dallas.
Summer school in the DISD begins June 4 and continues through July 18. Breakfast at participating schools will be served Monday through Thursday. Children may receive a free breakfast and lunch at the school where they are enrolled.
Approximately 25,000 lunches and snacks will be prepared for distribution Monday through Friday from four food preparation sites, excluding July 4. The preparation sites are: Lincoln High School, Martinez Learning Center, Greiner Middle School and A. M. Smith High School.
