DISD Hosts Two Teachers Job Fairs, June 16 & July 21

The Dallas Independent School District has scheduled two job fairs as part of its recruitment efforts to fill all teacher vacancies by Sept. 1, 2001. The first job fair is from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at A. Maceo Smith High School, 3030 Stag Road (Mapsco® key 66F). The second job fair is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Moisés E. Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Road (Mapsco® key 52U).

At the job fairs, candidates must go through a screening phase before they are granted an interview with the campus principals. After the screening phase, applicants who qualify will be interviewed by school principals. The interview phase is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Prospective candidates who cannot attend the upcoming job fairs should mail copies of their resume, transcripts, college letter of intent or certification to DISD–HF, 3807 Ross Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204 or fax (972) 925-4300.

With competitive compensation packages, the salary range for teachers starts at $33,000 and goes to $57,821. The district offers a $1,500 new hire incentive that will be paid to teachers in all subject areas, as well as new special education diagnosticians and psychologists. To be eligible for the bonus, these applicants must have their hiring process completed by July 31, 2001. A $1,000 hiring incentive will be given to new teachers, diagnosticians and psychologists who complete their hiring process between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31. An additional signing bonus ranging from $500 to $1,500 will be paid to teachers who are certified in critical shortage areas.

The district continues to offer annual stipends to teachers who hold certificates in critical shortage areas including early childhood (PK-K), math, bilingual education, Spanish, science, special education and dual certification in critical subject fields. The stipends range from $500 to $3,000, depending on the teaching area.
