DISD's PHONE HOTLINE HOPES TO EASE BACK-TO-SCHOOL CONFUSION

The first week of classes is traditionally one of the busiest in the Dallas Independent School District with parents calling to inquire about issues ranging from transportation to health services to school locations. To ease the confusion and to be able to provide comprehensive answers to callers, the district will launch its 2001 Opening of School Hotline Monday, August 13. Classes in the DISD start August 15.

"This year, 163,000 students are expected to attend Dallas schools. Many are new to the district and have questions that are unique to their particular circumstances. By opening the hotline a few days before school starts, and continuing until Monday, August 20, we hope to ease the back-to-school confusion and allow for a more pleasant experience for students and parents as well," said Ora Lee Watson, Assistant Superintendent, School Instructional Leadership and Operations.

Hotline telephones will be answered from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., August 13-14, and from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. August 15-20. Departments and telephone numbers where experienced staff members will be able to provide assistance are listed.
