DISD COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT POSTS PHOTOS AND UPDATES OF FIRST-DAY EVENTS ON DALLASISD.ORG

Renewed Efforts Made To Keep Site Updated, Informational

DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District Communication Services department announced Wednesday that updates have been made to the district's website, including new photos of first-day activities and information about enrollment, its spokeswoman Loretta Simon said.

The new information posted can be obtained by logging onto the district's site at http://www.dallasisd.org.

"We have made updating the website a priority in the communications department and worked this morning to make sure we were capturing memories of the first day of school for the site," Ms. Simon said. "We intend to be much more proactive this year in keeping the content on the website fresh and up-to-date—that includes news content as well as photographs and graphics."

Ms. Simon said additional updates to the site are forthcoming.

"We are presently studying the reach and depth that the site should have and will be making important modifications to the site over the next couple of months," Ms. Simon said. "It is our goal to present people within and beyond the district with information that will prove to be helpful and worthwhile."

Ms. Simon said that all news releases issued by communication services are presently posted on the website at the same time they are released to the news media in person or via fax. She pledged to continue this practice into the future.

"We are closely studying other methods for providing members of the news media with information over the Internet," Ms. Simon said. "We can see a time coming when we can provide audio and even video clips to the public and the news media via the Web. We are excited about the possibilities that the Internet can provide us and we are taking a close look at using this tool as a means of communicating better with the public."

Ms. Simon said a team of people from the communications department had played a role in writing material, taking photographs, designing web pages and posting them to the website on Wednesday.
