DISD Public Hearing to Discuss Budget and Proposed Tax Rate Set for August 13
The Board of Trustees of the Dallas Independent School District invites the community to comment on the district's proposed general operating budget for the 2001-2002 school year at 5 p.m., Thursday, August 23. The public hearing will be held in the auditorium of the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.
The district's proposed operating budget of $981 million is up for Board of Education consideration at a 6 p.m. meeting following the public hearing.
2001-2002 Budget Highlights Offers:
o No tax increase
o Teacher and professional support salary increases of $19.9 million
o State Revenue reduced by more than $23 million from 2000-2001
o Reduction of more than 50 positions at a savings of $2.1 million, primarily through attrition and a hiring freeze on vacant, non-teaching jobs
o Additional funding for health insurance
o $2 million for the first year cost of a Special Education student records tracking system.
o Implementation of many of the Texas School Performance Review recommendations.
