Student Leaders Hold First Meeting
DALLAS–A student advisory group, the DISD Teen School Board is scheduled to hold its first meeting of the school year Sept. 5. Comprised of senior and junior class presidents from each district high school, the students present issues and concerns of their classmates to General Superintendent Mike Moses and the Board of Trustees, said Judy Johnston, Executive Director–Teaching and Learning.
"The students on the Teen School Board are ambassadors selected to represent their respective campus," Dr. Johnson said. "These students are committed to improving their leadership skills and dedicated to community service projects." In addition to the students' role as liaison, the Teen School Board participates in several community service projects. Some of those activities include a school supply drive for the homeless children and a toy drive. Members of the board also are charged to champion and support district's initiatives.
It is the duty of the Teen School Board president to bring top concerns to trustees at board meetings which are held the fourth Thursday of each month. The Teen School Board meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Administration Building, located at 3700 Ross Avenue.
The election of the teen board officers will be held at the October meeting. The offices that are up for election include president, vice president, second vice president, secretary, leadership chairperson and service project chairperson.
