Hughey Named General Superintendent for Dallas Independent School District Townview Center Named for Yvonne Ewell Dr. James H. Hughey, acting general superintendent for the Dallas Independent School District, has been named General Superintendent by the Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees. Hughey's contract will run through August 31, 1999. The vote was 5-3. Hughey has served as Acting General Superintendent since September 24, 1997, following the resignation of the former superintendent. He has worked for Dallas Independent School District for more than 40 years. "I am pleased that board members have placed their trust in me throughout the next school year," said Hughey. "My mission since taking this position has been to restore public confidence in our school district and I believe we're moving in the right direction." In other board action, the vote was 7-0-1 in favor of renaming Townview Magnet Center for Dr. Yvonne A. Ewell, District 5 Board Trustee who died April 27. The school will now be known as the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center. Dr. Ewell was one of the original planners of Townview and even suggested its current name. Members of the East Oak Cliff community submitted more than 1,000 signatures in support of the name change. |
